AXTools CodeSmart

A while ago I posted that I had to uninstall AXTools CodeSmart for VS.NET due to bugs.   I'm happy to report that the latest fixpack (#6) seems to have fixed the major problems that led to me uninstalling.   So, I'm using it again, along with CodeRush, which I love BTW

So which one do you like better, and why? Your CodeRush review was very interesting. I've taken a look at CodeSmart before but haven't checked out CodeRush yet.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Hi Paul...

For most of what I use a tool like this for code shortcuts, CodeRush is hands down my favorite. It's is very customizable and the way its code templates work is really cool. Especially for a keyboard shortcut person like yourself, I think you'd be way into CodeRush. The only downside is that you do have to get used to CodeRush, especially the way it interacts with autocomplete in VS.

CodeSmart has a feature that lets you only load it when needed. Honestly, I only fire it us when I need to create a strongly-typed collection. It has a good tool for doing that. IMO, much of its functionality is not very useful. It has this code workbench thing that lets you keep frequently used files handy, but I find that it takes too much extra work to use in the first place to be that beneficial. All in all, I like having both, but if I had to choose, it'd be CodeRush all the way.

Ahh... It does sound like CodeRush is definitely the way to go for me. I've experimented with CodeSmart before, and liked it mainly because of the editor features you describe, but didn't use it for much of anything else. I even went as far as to email them a suggestion to include refactoring but got a lukewarm response (something that I think could have really added value to the product).
