Considering a Move...

I've been considering moving my blog to a host (that I'm already paying for) with .TEXT and DotNetNuke (which I already have set up)  Scoble advocates this in his post Microsoft blog RSS feed changes analyzed, DonXML and Dave Burke also have taken this route, and seem happy with it.

I'm wondering if there's enough momentum here to support such a move.  It would be pretty depressing if I moved and ended up with only my buddy Mark commenting on my posts.  Once I set up an internet radio station and only had one listener for about a year.  That was a flop!

Hey, if you need any help moving just let me know. Darrell, Paul, and I will come over and help. Those moving crews can get a little pricey. What are friends for if they can't help a buddy in need?

The one issue with doing this is exposure. DotNetJunkies is a highly exposed site and the blogs there are read quite frequently by lots of people in the industry. By moving your blog onto your own hosted site (like I do with mine), you're at risk of less people finding you. That being said, you do have the freedom to do more with your site and can customize .Text to your liking, add other controls, etc.

I'll certainly follow the blog to a new host. I also host my own blog, and although exposure was tough in the begining, it gets better and better everyday. The other nice thing is that you know you have brought in readers as opposed to just being a "syndication click through".

Thanks Dave and Aaron... I may just do it. I am worried about loosing exposure, especially through google searches, but we'll see.

We've discussed moving blogs to WeProgram.Net or another location but never took the plunge. I think if I ever get into the habit of writing better, more technical posts again I'll move off DNJ.

Since you did your own radio station, why not try the "full monty" and to audio/visual stuff? You can start by taping and broadcasting the WeProgram.Net meetings via the internet. You could be the next Ted Turneer! I'll give you a great name for your channel... the .NETwork.

Hi Grant! Yeah, I rembember you mentioning this a while ago. I do like the your idea about the broadcasting the WeProgram meetings! Could you drum up a sponsor for that?
