From MSN: Microsoft to curtail Passport service
I don't know about you, but I groan everytime I have to use passport.  Well, perhaps something better is planned.

Passport isn't so bad in my opinion. Sure you have to log back in over and over, but that seems to be a recurring theme around the web (including on my own sites.)

The only company I can think of aside from Microsoft that could make an authentication process that I would use would have to be Google. I bet they will come out with one within a year now that passport is as good as dead.
