LOTR director Peter Jackson planning to do The Hobbit

From Meandering-Blog.com:

Great news - They are doing the Hobbit!!!!!!!

Lord of the Rings' Director Peter Jackson is planning to film 'The Hobbit,' according to this Associated Press article. Jackson, who is currently filming 'King Kong', is waiting for New Line and MGM, the two studios with rights to the film, to battle it out for rights to make the prequel. Jackson also mentions wanting the movie to feel just like the LOTR trilogy, including having Ian McKellen return as Gandalf.

Having seen the LOTR trilogy, the only thing I really wanted to see whas the Hobbit done by the same people. I absolutly cannot wait to see what WETA (The special affects house that did the LOTR rings films and did the outstanding Gollum character) does with the dragon Smaug.

Yup, this will be sweet to see on the big screen. I imagine they won't attempt to do the Similarion though.

I'D REALLY LIKE TO KNOW , (NOW THAT THESE FANTASY MOVIES HAVE BEEN SO SUCCESSFULL) IF MR,JACKSON HAS EVER READ THE DARK ELF TRILOGY.BY R A SALVATORE, AND IF HE HAS, WOULD HE EVER CONSIDER DOING THESE BOOKS AS MOVIES..
ESPECIALLY SINCE THE LOTR SET WAS SO WELL DONE AND SO SUCCESSFUL THERE ARE MANY OF US WHO WOULD BE VERY EXCITED ABOUT SEEING MORE OF THESE SETS

i think the hobbit movie is a great idea and peter jackson doing it in tha lotr style would be even better but as far as tha silmarillion goes i think that would be a box office failure its a very boring book and doesn't really even tie in with these movies so there ya go

Good movies are far and few bewteen. That is what makes them so good. Peter Jackson would not doubt do a fantastic job with "The Hobbit". But he needs a cast to do it with. I thin that the LOTR trilogy had cast members that everyone enjoyed seeing. This will be his greatest task as we know he is already a good movie maker.

Whoever thinks the simirillion was boring ought to be shot!!! People keep freekin saying that THE HOBBIT is where it all began. It didnt begin there! The Hobbit is actually kind of a side trip, or an instance of happenstance. The ring existed a thousand years before Bilbo was even born, and there are incredible battles and great characters involved in it. The whole premise of the books, (simarrillion included) is the depravity of people and the quest for POWER. Aragorn emphasizes this fact in his quote, "I give hope to men, and keep none for myself!" He does not want power, or to rule, which is why he makes a great ruler, no tyranny here. The real problem with making the Simarillion into a movie is that it is so deep, and has so many storylines, you would have to make it into ten movies, hell jackson barely pulled off LOTR in three movies, even still he left out some really cool story lines. If he makes the Hobbit it will be merely OK, but it wont be a blockbuster. It will be great to watch, and may win some awards, but it will never be the hit that the other three were. If he does make the movie, and doesnt include the same characters, it will really bomb. People will be pissed. My recommendation, if he does make the Hobbit without the key actors, wait for it to come out on DVD. You cant screw the audience and get away with it, like Lucas did.

The Hobbit would be a great movie! I would be a bit disappointed though if Ian Mckellen was not used for Gandalf. He should also get Hugo Weaving back for Elrond and should have the guy who played Bilbo in LOTR. (I forget his name)
