My name is Darrell Norton. I am a Senior Consultant at CapTech Ventures in Richmond, VA (USA). I consider myself primarily a C# programmer, although I do a significant amount of VB.NET work depending on the client. My technical specialties include databases and web sites, with a little bit of web services on the side. I really enjoy software development methodologies and best practices, focusing on agile methods, and do considerable research into this area. The driving force behind all this is an overall interest in improving developer productivity.

Long History (for those with more time on their hands)
I’ve been developing database-backed web sites since 1998, when I worked on a NASA intranet using Cold Fusion. I was also the assistant web master at my undergraduate university, Christopher Newport University. I graduated at the top of my class from CNU with a Bachelor’s of Science in Information Science (BSIS) degree.
From there I went on to the graduate school of business at William & Mary. Getting my MBA was a wonderful challenge, and I graduated near the top of my class. With my MBA in hand, I set out to enjoy the wide wonderful world of work (sarcasm fully intended).
My first full-time permanent job (I worked full-time at CNU, just on 2 different jobs) was at Naptheon, which was subsequently bought out by Northrop Grumman. My first assignment was to work on a project as part of the Microsoft early adopter program. This was a great experience.
After 2 years and 2 months, I was ready to move on. I found my current employer, CapTech Ventures. CapTech is a growing IT consulting firm based in Richmond, VA, which has given me the opportunity to greatly improve my skills and abilities.
