Visual Studio 2010 == Visual Studio 2008 + ReSharper

Do you want the next gen of next-gen applications? Get the Visual Studio 2010 CTP! Which is – according to Microsoft itself – really just Visual Studio 2008 with ReSharper installed.

Visual Studio 2010 == Visual Studio 2008 + ReSharper

Take a close look. (Click on the image above for the full-size image.) The window in front clearly shows Visual Studio 2008 with the ReSharper menu (between “Test” and “Window”) and right-hand ReSharper code analysis bar (yellow square and lines indicating warnings in the file). Even funnier is the window in behind, which is the ReSharper Options dialog (ALT-R-O). This is not a photoshopped image, but an actual screenshot from Microsoft.com.

This gave me a chuckle. I hope it brightens your morning too.

Maybe VS 2010 will include Resharper? With Microsoft adopting JQuery perhaps this has opened the door to such? It would be good for Jetbrains due to volume and good for Microsoft to have a good way to support NUnit and encourage TDD. Scott Gutherie influence perhaps leaked to VS product team.

Personally I think its quite intended.. and theres a considerable set of changes in vs2010, using the mef and wpf is pretty considerable, especially given they are employed to power tool extension, which so far has been a bit 'ugh'.

@Matt - My sources say that this isn't the case. :)

@JH - I can't take credit for spotting it. A friend at JetBrains IM'd me with the link and asked if I noticed anything interesting.

I've been using the VS2010 PDC CTP (to prepare for the Furtures of C# and VB talk at the MSDN DevCon), and yes, it looks and feels like R#, even the VB stuff.  Actually, the VB demo I'm giving shows off the R# like refactoring capabilities.

So, if you have a copy of the VS 2010 CTP given out at the PDC, you can test it out yourself.

I can see it now. "Hey, the marketing guys want us to send a screenshot of a recent VS2010 build for the website. Can you snap a shot or two off the nearest test machine you can find? Doesn't matter which, just grab a screenshot and forward it directly to them".

OK, that is too funny.  Any bets that was one of the product guys having fun with marketing.

Resharper really is that awesome.

Too bad for the guys from Resharper. Their sales will drop a ton if they don't come up with more handy stuff.

@Jef Claes: Guys from Resharper already established a good habit of being one or two steps ahead ;)

Thats a good catch.. anyways, MS can bring in amazing Open Source Tools and 3rd party tools in to VS2010 then it would be great for the developer community and productivity of the team

@configurator - Microsoft updated their site earlier today to correct the erroneous screenshots, which is why I included the screenshot above. As noted by another commenter here (http://tinyurl.com/7sgszn), for a short time Microsoft had an image of Visual Studio with "ReSharper Options" in the title bar, but the code editor and toolbars of VS2008 - obviously a quickly doctored image. Many people saw the original images showing ReSharper on the Microsoft site. So just ask around on Twitter and I'm sure many folks will vouch for the fact that the above image is legit.

Hi,

I've got it first hand. If you're a Resharper developer: You will still need Resharper. Microsoft is not going to 'assimilate' Resharper.

I've seen the latest work very recently: VS2010 is gonna kick ass! Add Resharper to the equation and you have got a very cool package!

yeah maybe them Microsoft can fix thier damn memory leak in Visual Studio and Jet brains can stop having to make wrappers for Visual Studio to avoid thier lack of quality.

Fix your products first MS

I have seen some of the previews of Visual Studio 2010 and some of the features really resembles that of ReSharper, I now wonder what would be there in ReSharper to add as they did with the previous versions of VS
