Re: .Net Rocks is not going downhill - level 000

To comment on Eric's post about .Net Rocks, I would have to say:  Congratulations for exercising your right to voice your opinion.  You live in America.  Isn't it great.  It's also great that our economy operates on capitalism.  If Carl couldn't get any sponsors for the show, then he would probably do something different because of the cost involved.  If the sponsors of the show weren't getting any benefit from the advertisement, they would probably stop sponsoring.  It all comes back to “voting with your feet”.  Those who don't like the show don't listen.  Those who do like the show do listen (and hear advertisements, buy products, etc).  I don't comment negatively on cooking or gardening radio shows.  I simply do not listen to them.  But other people do.  Eric, I think the best way to effect change in Carl's show (if that's your goal) is to email him directly.

I, personally, have listened to every show, and if one particular episode didn't peak my interest (and how can I possibly be interested in EVERY topic they discuss?), I simply don't listen to it again.  There are other episodes, however, to which I have listened several times.  I first started listening when I was deployed to Iraq with the Army.  It made it easy to keep up with what's going on in the .Net world.  It's a great resource.

My .Net Rocks mug sits proudly on a shelf in my office.

Sometimes a blog post will spur action when an email will not. And it is still better than stopping listening without saying anything.

Plus, as the old saying goes, bad press is better than no press. :)

So this is what it feels like to be a Democrat? Dissent isn't good, eh? :)

Anyway, I posted because I want the show to improve, and as Darrell points out, sometimes the blog post course of action gets more response. The show has had some really good subject matter, but as I pointed out, the stuff "around" the show isn't as good as it once was. You are more than entitled to believe things are fine with the show as it is, and that Carl can tweak away to his hearts content, until it becomes nothing more than Carl Rocks (which, if you recall the Coding Slave show, is what Carl wants the show to become - and if that's fine with you, great, but at that point I will vote with my feet).

If I'm allowed to post book reviews (which seems to be heavily encouraged, and it should be), then why can't I review a radio show. After all, I'm not any more qualified to write a book than I am to host an internet radio show... :)

"why can't I review a radio show?"
You can. And you did. I never suggested that you should not have posted what you did. I just commented on it. And you've commented back. And we're participating in "freedom of the press". I'm not sure what the reference to being a Democrat is (and dissenting). I'm hardly an authority from whom to dissent.

Well, I have to say I liked the show better when Mark Dunn was the co-host. But I wouldn't turn it down with Rory either.

To be frank - yes I do see at times Carl having a big head and my propensity to listen to the guest rather than him, because he does do shows in which he is the speaker himself, but I can live with that. As long as I know the guy knows more than I do, I can put up with his big head, and yes Carl knows a few things I donot.
