I'm skeptical about Experts-Exchange - level 000

I was just combing through my referral logs, when i saw a link to my “How to track down memory leaks” post coming from Experts-Exchange.  That means that someone is paying to see a solution to a problem that just refers them to my blog.  Has anyone reading used Experts-Exchange?  For one, I find that those who claim to be an expert are often times not, but the real experts don't claim it, they are attributed this title by their peers.  Charles Petzold (whom we can all agree is an expert on Windows programming) is an example of this.   If you listened to hime on .Net Rocks a few weeks ago, it's obvious.

In my experience, I've been able to find solutions to my problems on the free Internet without having to pay an aggregation service.  I contribute to newgroups more often than I post questions, and I can only hope that my blog is helping some people.

I have big reservations about this pay service that seems to be getting bigger.  It would be harmful to the development community if more and more useful resources became pay-per-view.

Even more harmfull if some 'experts' earn money on your back.

I totally agree about helping people on newsgroups, boards and so on without being paid for but I'd be kind of 'bad' if I see people getting paid by just submitting links on things I wrote...

I think experts-exchange is a great source of information. I've never asked a question there but I've found a TON of answers there because others have asked the same question I am looking to solve.

Interesting one this and I can see both sides of the coin.

I've been a paying member of both Experts Exchange and SSWUG.org in the past and found the members' content very useful however I am no longer a member of either. I felt I wasn't getting value for money, probably because my own search skills have improved and definitely because of RSS.

You don't have to pay to use Experts Exchange, if you're willing to suffer the adverts it is free although finding the signup as an expert link is well hidden. None of the participants there get paid and if free access was withdrawn most of us would stop answering questions.
