EZWeb v1.2 now released!!! Go download.

I've finally released my next version of EZWeb.  You can download it from the GotDotNet workspace.  EZWeb is a website management system.  Drop it into IIS, set the NTFS permissions to the ASPNET (or NETWORK SERVICE) account, and you can immediately begin to grow a website, or create an account for your mother and let her do it (complete with image and file upload).

EZWeb is the simplest website management system.  No database is required at all.  All changes can be done from the browser.   EZWeb is not a portal framework, and doesn't compete with DNN.  EZWeb allows websites to be set up and grown "eazily".  You will start with one page, and you can grow the website, or you can create many users and delegate parts of the website they can grow.

This is a perfect system for user group websites.  Get information up quickly, and post ppt slides after events.  Create an account for each UG member and let them have a personal section.

EZWeb is free for non-profit use.  I encourage everyone to download it and give it a whirl.  I started this project in 2003 when I was deployed to Iraq.  It's come a long way since then, and I already have a long list of improvements, so please give me your feedback and feature-requests.

Because "plugins" are just ASP.NET controls, any control can be loaded and used with EZWeb.  I'll be posting answers to questions as they come.

Hypothetically speaking, are you planning to release a version licensed for use on a "for-profit" site? Obviously, one would expect that you would charge for such a license, but I was just wondering if you planned to have one.

It would be great if we could use your stuff to build personal sites and all, and then transfer those skills to actual work for clients... :)

In the READMe file, I express that if someone wants to use this for profit, just ask. For some commercial uses, I'll probably grant a complimentary license, but I definitely hope to make money with this in the future.

Right now, I'm inclined to let everyone use it for free to get some exposure and some valuable feature requests.

I'm hoping this will help spur the development of ASP.NET controls, since any control can be invoked and used within EZWeb.

You could definitely use EZWeb to do actual work for clients. I don't see a problem working out a license for them much like Infragistics is used in many consulting projects.

Hi Jeffery, actually I am very impressive with the sample application you were demonstrated the general DDD architecture. Do you plan to continue redfining it?

There will defintely be a version for .Net 2.0 probably just before or right at RTM of .Net 2.0

I've already begun on the .Net 2.0 version, and that version will officially take advantage of the Whidbey features: Master Pages, Themes, and my user account mechanism will change to use the Membership Provider infrastructure. I will stay with the "no - database and keep it simple" calling, but I'll provide dependency injection hooks for other set-ups besides file-based.

Watch my blog for announcements. I'll be setting up an EZWeb sandbox for demonstration purposes.
