Jeremy D. Miller -- The Shade Tree Developer

Under the hood and working with .Net, TDD, Software Design, and Agile Stuff

I like this

I don't care if you're excited about the new MVC framework or if you're one of those people that are desensitized to the pain of WebForms, the fact that this graphic was in a blog post from ScottGu has to make any ALT.NET heart go pitter-patter:

All I'm excited about is the very idea that a Microsoft produced tool explicitly encourages unit testing (and acknowledges the existence of OSS tooling!).

Oh yeah, and they responded to early user feedback and made changes accordingly.  I like the way Microsoft is running the MVC program.

Yeah, they got rid of the ControllerAction attribute.  Vaguely remember some complaints about that.

I wouldn't have called it a show stopper, but still, that much less code noise in the world

It is good to see that they are finally listening.

*insert tongue in cheek*

Now if they could only contribute to open source projects instead of recreating them in their own image

*remove tongue from cheek*

that may be asking too much this early on though =)

sorry. couldn't help it.

It is nice to see that they are finally listening to the community. I think at this point they really have no choice if they wish to retain a loyal following of users.

That's very cool - You can select your own testing platform.  Wasn't this the company who did give a hang about the community wanted?  They finally acknowledged that this other stuff exists.

That screenshot has so many dimensions. I'm staring at it all morning. I would like that they put MS Test as the last option in the drop-down list, but that's just me being picky :-). Never thought I'd see the day that Microsoft acknowledges open-source software. An historic moment people!

I've not heard anything about a MbUnit provider but both Phil and Rob are fans so I expect this is already done :)

The question is, can you plug your own testing framework into that dialog or are the values in the drop down box hard coded?

Oh duh, I just RTFB more carefully.

"The ASP.NET MVC test framework wizard is pluggable and will enable custom unit test project templates to be added to its list of supported test options:"

@Scott,

This is the part where I say "Perfect is the enemy of the Good"

It's not that hard to just set up your own project with whatever you want like we've done for 5+ years.
