I have been thinking of making a shift to .NET, and a friend of mine pointed me to this site.

However, since this application is written in .NET, seeing how .NET breaks all over the place, I am extremely discouraged. I think .NET sucks.

Would you disagree that .NET is extremely fragile? It is probably tough to maintain too because this site has had such a problem fighting off comment spam, if it were linux, you could easily post a little upgrade and be done with it. But with .NET you just can't do it.

Let me tell you about Linux. I installed it, and it was great! Then I installed a program call "LinuxFtp". Every time I tried to use it, it would blow up with errors like "LinuxFtp encountered an error and can't continue.". Wow, Linux really sucks. I can't believe that people think it's stable! It can't even handle a simple program that was less than a 1MB download. What a crappy operating system!

That's comparing apples to oranges. Linux is an OS, .NET is a platform which runs on top of an OS. Like Linux in the Mono project.
.NET is a hell of a framework with (a) beatifull language(s) but none of this contains the silver bullet to write bug free code and block spam out of the box.

Getting the bugs fixed is another story, also .net apps live in the real world.

You're absolutely right LinuxGuy, God knows no one has ever written bad code on Linux, and no one has ever deployed anything on a system that grew really fast and started bogging down.

Yes, that's totally the fault of .NET and ASP.NET - it has nothing to do with the underlying hardware or anything else.

Stick with Linux buddy - knowing how to use only one OS will definitely make you more marketable.

Man I'd love to see a platform on which you can't write bad code.

Linuxguy, you just lowered the IQ of this site to room temperature.
