At work we’re using Yammer (Twitter clone) to communicate between the developers and keep up to date on what we’re up to, good ideas we might have had etc.

This is why i encourage people to blog. Sure enough most people won’t have huge followings are be great writers but I subscribe to all the people I work with who do blog so that when they find something I know.
And for those companies who are scared of IP loss, just setup an internal blog system.
