Have the good folks at JetBrains done it again? Today they announced the first public release of their newest product: TeamCity. Looks like a build management / continuous integration tool.
Interestingly enough, it’s works for both Java and .NET and seems to plug into most of the popular .NET tools.
Two issues though. Their homepage states that it integrates with the IDE, but they only mention their own Java IDE…no VS.NET integration?! No Thanks! Also I didn’t see SourceGear Vault in the list of supported source control repositories – which makes it a no go for me as well. Of course, it’s still in beta, so I’m going to keep my fingers crossed!
I’ve been using JetBrain’s Resharper for about 2 years now. It provides amazing productivity boosts. I strongly recommend that any VS.NET + C# developers try the fully functional 30-day trial. I think price/performance it’s the best money you can spend – flat out.
Oskar,
You may check our Parabuild – it’s a production-grade software build management server. Parabuild does support Vault.
VS integration will be added in the version 1.5. But even without any IDE integration it’s better than competing products. As for Vault support, for the first version we’ve supported 5 version control systems: CVS, Subversion, Visual SourceSafe, Perforce and StarTeam. They seem to cover the majority of the market. And we’ll add support for more version controls in future releases.
Hey, it’s just 1.0! VS integration is coming, but not in the very first release. Of course for the first release the easiest way was to provide integration with the IDE from the same company.
I have faith in JetBrains…when you release a product like this, you’ve got to know that 80% of all the “coverage” is going to be “too bad it doesn’t support XXX”…that’s the nature of the beast they decided to try to solve
Yeah, I completely agree – at first I was excited about TeamCity, but when I realized there was no VS and Vault support, I quickly discarded it. Too bad.
